Southbridge chip separates from motherboard. This happens because of shoddy HP workmanship. The NX6110 related models are not the only HP products where chips "pop off". The BGA chips rely on solder to be used as "glue" to hold the chips in place. Other HP models (DV2's) lose their video for the same reason. At least with the SouthBridge chips only USB functionality is lost. HP no longer represents the high calibre of engineering that was found in their electronic equipment from 1960 to the 1990's. HP quality is no more.

I've been using the Internet since before it was called 'the internet' and I've never had any problems with DNS servers, so how this company can call their totally meaningless, useless interference with what I type into my browser bar a 'service' is beyond me.

The problem is that if they manage to con a business into using it, then suddenly one's dns requests are being mangled 'automatically'.

Rubbish idea, why on earth anyone wants to insert another 'abstraction layer' into Internet use is beyond me. Just 'cos it makes money for them doesn't make it a 'useful' service for users.

Just more rubbish blocking up the tubes....

practice what you preach...

Hi,

You should look at Shinken too, it’s a enhanced Nagios reimplementation in Python that allow you to have a quick and easy distributed and high availability monitoring environment, and of course with Nagios configuration and plugins compatibility.

It's available (Open Source with a AGPL licence) at http://www.shinken-monitoring.org with even a demo virtual machine to test it in 5minutes.

SOLUTION TO THE HARDWARE ISSUE

Hi guys,
I found a hardware solution, and it works fine with my HP6110.
You need to open your notebook and get to the motherboard (see service manual) and then put a rubber thing or some filling on the chipset "Intel" which is in the area under the touchpad.
The USB problem is due to a faulty contact of this chipset and it appears after 3-4 years of usage. Therefore a slightly pressure on the chip helps.

Hi Michael,

why pay for a solution which is closed source if you can do it yourself for free and have the source.

Roedie, this plugin probably uses Netapp API to collect data, so you don't need SNMP running on your filers.

There's a product called LogicMonitor, which automates a lot of work to setup Netapp monitoring, and also can monitor other devices in a datacenter (servers, load balancers, databases, networking gear, etc).
Check out http://www.logicmonitor.com/monitoring/monitoring-netapp-filers/

I also have been experiencing ".. over-current change on port ..." errors on an HP NX6110. My laptop battery is now >4 yrs. old. Hardware USB ports all work but ... not battery APM. The "... over-current ..." errors disappear when I remove the battery and then reinsert it, plug in the power cord and THEN turn on the laptop. Problems manifest when powering up from the battery alone and do not clear when hydro is applied while running. Regardless, Ubuntu 8.04 hardy heron eventually hangs running from the LiveCD.
